EMV
On October 1, 2015, the liability for counterfeit
fraudulent transactions at your point-of-sale will become your
responsibility. It’s called EMV™, (E for EuroPay, M for MasterCard, and V
for Visa), and it’s taking place all across the United States, bringing the
U.S.
in line with existing global standards.
EMV devices and cards use embedded smart chips to make
credit and debit payments more secure – whether the payment is made in
person, or through a mobile device.
By upgrading to EMV-enabled equipment and POS software
now, you’ll be protecting your business as the liability shifts to
businesses who have not upgraded to EMV-enabled POS equipment by October 1,

Old Dog - New Tricks?

Boat anchor, Doorstop, Paperweight?
Sadly, your terminal may have become obsolete. With their inability to accept EMV cards, their days are numbered. Older terminals also lack the memory and can't meet the demands for the latest data security standards. The cost of repairing them is also becoming cost prohibitive since the parts are not manufacturered by the manufacturer any more. Additionally the processors won't create terminal downloads for them makes so that makes them a target for retirement.
